Built for the Lincoln Tercentenary, a 1937 celebration marking 300 years of the Lincoln family in this country, this stone monument honored Samuel Lincoln, the first ancestor to arrive, who landed in Boston on June 20, 1637, and also honored the passage of Abraham Lincoln's family through Cumberland Gap in 1780 to settle in Kentucky.
