At this site, Robert Draper organized the first company accepted into the Provisional Army of the Confederate States from Calhoun County. The Sulphur Springs Greys, later the Calhoun Greys, were designated Company B of the 7th Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment. After the Civil War, this popular resort, known for the medicinal aid of its mineral waters, served as the reunion grounds for Confederate Veterans from the mid 1870's to 1926.
