Riverside State Park, just northwest of Spokane, is Washington’s second largest state park, spanning 9,194 acres along the Spokane and Little Spokane rivers. Its landscape ranges from steep river cliffs and basalt canyons to broader wetlands and oxbow lakes, with Deep Creek cutting a particularly dramatic gorge. Created through land gifts in 1933 and 1934, the park was largely developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, whose work at places like the Bowl and Pitcher still shapes key facilities. It also preserves regional history through the Spokane House Interpretive Center and remains a major outdoor recreation corridor close to metropolitan Spokane.
