Ireteba Peaks Wilderness is a 32,745-acre protected desert landscape in southern Nevada, about 45 miles south of Las Vegas, extending from the southern Eldorado Mountains toward the northern reaches of Lake Mohave. Managed jointly by the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management, it was designated wilderness in 2002. In 2023, its western Bureau of Land Management section was included in Avi Kwa Ame National Monument, giving part of the area added protection. Named for Irataba, a leader of the Mohave tribe, the wilderness contains creosote, yucca, desert willow, cacti, and wildlife such as desert tortoises, Townsend’s big-eared bats, and bighorn sheep.
