Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, Mississippi, affiliated with Mississippi State University, is both a botanical garden and a native-plant preserve devoted to the ecology of the Pearl River drainage basin. Founded by Lynn Crosby Gammill, Stewart Gammill, and Osmond Crosby in memory of L. O. Crosby, Jr., it combines a 64-acre interpretive center with more than 700 acres of additional natural areas that protect over 300 species of indigenous trees and shrubs. Its preserves encompass diverse Gulf Coastal Plain habitats, while Pinecote Pavilion and its surrounding grounds unite conservation, research, landscape design, and architecture in a public setting focused on southern Mississippi’s native environments.
