In 1936, partners Maren Gribskov and Eleanor Bechen sought to expand their restaurant operation by building their own facility in the English Tavern style. They found an ideal location overlooking the Deschutes River, and the establishment took its name from the large Ponderosa Pine that grows in the dining room. It is probably Bend's most loved landmark.
