This monument, erected by the D. G. Govan Chapter of the U. D. C., honors Lee County's Confederate soldiers with the motto “Fidelis Fortissimus” and memorial verses praising their bravery, their cause, their enduring memory, and the veterans of the sixties as heroes in gray whose valor will live on through coming ages.
