American Legion State Forest Trails form a short Blue-Blazed network in the Pleasant Valley section of Barkhamsted, Connecticut, with the Henry Buck Trail and Turkey Vulture Trail together totaling 3.18 miles. Established as part of Connecticut’s trail system, their earlier alignment reaches back to the 1930s, and the forest still holds Civilian Conservation Corps features such as stone stairways and campsites. The routes are especially notable for the history visible along them, including remnants of mills, a soapstone quarry, a 19th-century cheese box factory, charcoal mounds, and a stone bridge destroyed in the 1938 hurricane. Nearby, the Barkhamsted Lighthouse site adds a wider story of settlement and community.
