A steel beam from the Twin Towers destroyed by foreign terrorists on 9-11-01 was donated by New York City to the Barber County Veterans Memorial in remembrance of the lives lost in that incident and as a reminder of the importance of freedom and those who help protect it. A time capsule containing war artifacts is dedicated to the men and women of Barber County who loved their country and stood as sentinels in times of need, and fifth grade students from the years 2002-03 and 2003-04 initiated it to honor Barber County veterans.
