Originally built in 1852 as a gristmill on the Mahoning River in Columbiana County, Ohio, this barn has been restored to resemble its appearance after conversion into a vertical carriage manufactory in the 1800s. Specialty factories produced one piece or part of a carriage at a time, while a vertically integrated carriage factory assembled all of the pieces together to produce the final carriage.
