Lookout Studio stands on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Grand Canyon Village as both a scenic overlook and a visitor facility. Built in 1914 by the Santa Fe Railway as a photography studio competing with nearby Kolb Studio, it was designed by Mary Colter, one of the key architects shaping the canyon’s early visitor experience. Colter used jagged native stone, irregular massing, and a rough-hewn parapet to make the building resemble indigenous forms and blend into the rim. With viewing spaces on three levels, it remains a major historic structure valued for both its architecture and its role in framing canyon views.
