On April 27, 2013, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, Captain Brandon L. Cyr, Captain Reid K. Nishizuka, Staff Sergeant Daniel N. Fannin, and Staff Sergeant Richard A. Dickson lost their lives. Cyr, born September 16, 1984, in Woodbridge, Virginia, served with the 906th Air Refueling Squadron at Scott AFB, Illinois, as an instructor for the KC-135 tanker, earned more than 1,700 combat flying hours, and received one Meritorious Service Medal, five Air Medals, and one Achievement Medal; he is remembered for his humor, thoughtfulness, and dedication to the Air Force. Nishizuka, born January 29, 1983, in Honolulu, Hawaii, served with the 427th Reconnaissance Squadron at Beale AFB, California, as an MC-12 pilot, flew more than 2,400 combat flying hours, received ten Air Medals, two Air Force Commendation Medals, and two Air Force Achievement Medals, and is remembered as kind, loving, and deeply compassionate. Fannin, born April 9, 1983, in Morehead, Kentucky, served with the 552d Operations Support Squadron at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma, qualified as an Air Surveillance Technician Instructor, accumulated more than 2,000 combat flying hours, received three Air Medals, one Air Force Commendation Medal, and one Air Force Achievement Medal, and is remembered as a loving Christian man dedicated to his family. Dickson, born May 7, 1988, in Rancho Cordova, California, served with the 306th Intelligence Squadron at Beale AFB, California, qualified as an Airborne Tactical Systems Operator on the MC-12 aircraft, accumulated more than 1,400 combat flying hours, received seven Air Medals, and is remembered for unwavering dedication to family and friends.
