During the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Campaign from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945 in Belgium and Luxembourg, heroic American soldiers defeated the German armies at great cost. The dead are honored as comrades who made the supreme sacrifice for their country, and their duty, honor, country, sacrifice, and undaunted courage are remembered in what is called the greatest battle ever fought by the United States Army. The fighting involved infantry divisions, combat engineers, field artillery, AAA AW battalions, armored divisions, cavalry, rangers, the 1st U.S. Army, the 3rd U.S. Army, the 8th U.S. Air Force, and the 9th U.S. Air Force. American losses were 19,485 killed, 15,360 captured, and 45,155 wounded.
