The monument honors the Confederate soldiers of Chicot County for what it calls their sublime self-sacrifice and undying devotion, presenting that record as the proud heritage of a loyal posterity. Its rear inscription declares that whether they were unknown or known to fame, their cause and country were the same, and that they died wearing the gray. It attributes those lines to Father Ryan and records that it was erected in 1910 by the Captain McConnell and George K. Cracraft Chapters U.D.C. and Chicot County.
