After the terrorist attacks on the New York World Trade Center, North Arlington resident and New York Detective James Zadroga spent weeks digging through the rubble, first looking for survivors and then searching for remains to help bring closure to families who lost loved ones. While helping others at Ground Zero, he contracted an incurable lung disease that ultimately took his life. Remembered as a son, husband, father, and hero, he said, “Don’t feel sorry for me. I only did my job.”
