Port Barre
History

Port Barre was an active port in the steamboat era. It was named after the Barré family. In 1765 Charles Barré bought 8800 arpents of land from Jacques Guillaume Courtableau, the first commandant of the Opelousas Post. This is where Bayou Courtableau gives rise to Bayou Teche.
