Memphis Botanic Garden is a 96-acre public garden in Audubon Park that developed from 1953 into a major horticultural, educational, and cultural center for Memphis. Renamed in 1966 after earlier growth that included an arboretum, magnolia garden, rose garden, and the Goldsmith Civic Garden Center, it now contains 23 specialty gardens. Notable features include the Tennessee Bicentennial Iris Garden, the Japanese Garden of Tranquility, the Herb Garden, butterfly and sensory gardens, and a tropical plant house. Its programs and events serve both youth and adults, while honors such as Level 4 arboretum certification and national recognition for its Hosta Trail underscore its botanical importance.
