Lookout Mountain is a 9,954-foot summit in Idaho’s White Cloud Mountains within the Sawtooth National Recreation Area in Custer County. Located 4.72 miles from its line parent, Blackmon Peak, it is accessible by a maintained trail to the top. An old U.S. Forest Service fire lookout, built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, stands on the summit. Recently refurbished, the lookout connects the mountain’s current popularity as a hiking destination with its earlier use for forest observation and fire detection.
