New Canaan Nature Center is a 40-acre botanical garden, arboretum, and nature preserve in New Canaan, Connecticut, blending cultivated gardens with a compact but varied natural landscape. Its grounds include meadows, ponds, woodlands, thickets, an old orchard, a cattail marsh, and a greenhouse, along with wildflower, herb, and perennial gardens. The wildflower garden is especially notable for its strong emphasis on native plants, with about 90 percent native species, and the garden earned the 1997 Homer Lucas Landscape Award from the New England Wild Flower Society. An arboretum of ornamental and unusual trees and year-round community nature programs further define the center’s significance.
