George Martinez served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 through 1953, was wounded in action, and received the Purple Heart Medal. From June 1960 through August 1991, he served with the US Army Corps of Engineers and retired as Maintenance Foreman at Conchas. His strong work ethic helped improve dam operations, maintenance, and the integrity of the facilities and equipment at the Conchas Dam Project. He was also a skilled mason, carpenter, equipment operator, maintenance handyman, and enjoyed building wood furniture.
