The Montana Arboretum and Gardens is a botanical garden on the Montana State University campus in Bozeman, with its main arboretum at the campus’s northwestern corner and plantings spread more widely across the grounds. Though small, it focuses on plants well suited to Montana’s climate and landscape. Its collections emphasize species from the northern Rocky Mountain region, the plains, and the state’s drier areas, including a Xeriscape garden and mature large specimens. The arboretum’s trees, shrubs, and groundcovers include ponderosa pine, serviceberry, bearberry, green ash, juniper, lilac, crabapple, and mountain mahogany, blending native plants with hardy ornamentals.
