Winnebagoes lived here and fought on the side of the British in the War of 1812 and joined Black Hawk's Band in 1832. Prophetstown State Park was authorized by the Illinois General Assembly in 1947, sponsored by Representative George S. Brydia, and developed during the administration of Governor William G. Stratton.
