Businesses along San Pablo Avenue and the Santa Fe railroad, including building materials companies, TEPCO (Technical Porcelain and Chinaware Company), coal dealers, monument companies, several lumberyards, a slaughterhouse, and a few furniture stores, formed El Cerrito's industrial core.
