William F. Jones, an attorney, banker, and prominent businessman, and his wife, Gertrude F. Jones, are remembered for the generous gift that made Jones Memorial Hospital a reality. In 1920, they bequeathed their stately home for use as a hospital. Their gift evolved into the present structure through the efforts and generous donations of countless citizens, businesses, organizations, and governmental agencies who shared the Joneses' vision of a hospital "to receive the sick, maimed or injured who may need hospital care, without discrimination against those who may be unable to pay."
