Beacon Hill in Norco, California, is the highest summit in a chain of granite hills around and northeast of Lake Norconian at the northwestern end of the Temescal Mountains. Formerly called Chocolate Drop Mountain, it took its current name from the nearby Norconian Resort, whose owner, Rex Clark, built a 38-foot lighthouse on the summit with a powerful revolving light to draw attention to the property below. That beacon became the mountain’s defining feature, and the new name endured beyond the resort era, tying the hill to the landscape around Lake Norconian and to an early chapter of local development and boosterism.
