Near this spot stood the home of Isaac Williams, the first American settler in this valley, around which on September 26-27, 1846, the first important engagement in California of the war with Mexico was fought. The site was also the location of the Chino Ranch Station of the Butterfield Stage Line from 1858 to 1861.
