Prickett's Fort State Park in West Virginia preserves and interprets frontier life through a reconstructed version of Prickett's Fort, a refuge fort first built in 1774 on Jacob Prickett's homestead during a time of violence after the Treaty of Fort Stanwix and the outbreak of Lord Dunmore's War. The original log palisade sheltered settlers who "forted up" in times of danger, though it was never attacked and vanished from the record after 1780. Rebuilt nearby in 1974 after the likely destruction of the original site, the park also includes the 1859 Job Prickett House and supports living history, research, recreation, and regional trail access.
