Hatchett Hill in East Granby, Connecticut, is a basalt ridge on the Metacomet Ridge, a long volcanic formation running through the Connecticut River Valley. Despite rising only about 510 feet, its tiered ridges, sheer cliffs, and the nearly 200-foot drop into Tariffville Gorge give it a notably rugged character. Formed from lava flows and later tilted by faulting near the end of the Triassic Period, the ridge supports varied microclimates, uncommon plant communities, and serves as an important seasonal route for migrating raptors. Crossed by the Metacomet Trail, it is valued for scenic overlooks, hiking, and birdwatching, while also facing development and quarrying pressures.
