Big Foot Beach State Park is a Wisconsin state park on the shore of Geneva Lake, used mainly for hiking, swimming, camping, and fishing. Its name and beach recall Big Foot, the English name of the Potawatomi leader Maumksuck, also recorded in French as Gros Pied. He was an early leader in this area before the United States forcibly relocated his band in 1836. Geneva Lake was once known in English as Big Foot Lake, preserving the same association in an earlier place name and linking the park to the region’s Native history.
