Neill S. Brown was born three miles northeast of here on April 18, 1810. A veteran of the Seminole War, he became a member of the State Legislature in 1837, Governor of Tennessee in 1847, U.S. Minister to Russia in 1850, and a member of the State Constitutional Convention in 1870. He died in 1886.
