Oakwood Cemetery served as a burial ground for over a century, with graves dating from 1859. Its land was given by old settlers between 1883 and 1904. It was maintained by the Oakwood Cemetery Association, organized on Aug. 22, 1899, with Miss Alice Rogers as first president. A charter was issued in Jan. 1908, and an endowment fund was started on Oct. 5, 1947.
