At the dedication of Nunda Soldiers' Monument on October 12, 1897, Denton S. Robinson said it would stand in the cemetery not only as a memorial to the soldier dead but as a warning to the living, urging the people and nation to deal justly with all mankind and all nations. He said it recalled that freedom and liberty were priceless treasures, born and later preserved through rivers of blood, and it warned against carelessly throwing away that heritage or hesitating to defend it in times of peril. The monument was dedicated in 1897 and rededicated in 2015 during Oakwood Cemetery's 150th anniversary.
