In the late 1890's, the Echo Mountain Complex was known as the White City. The Chalet Hotel stood as the small low building at the far left, and the Echo Mountain House was the larger building just left of center. To the right were the power plant, car house, and gas storage. The complex was called the White City because its buildings were painted a brilliant white and could be seen over an area of 100 square miles on a clear day.
