On March 31, 1938, as the last miles of line were pulled only the day before energization for the Brown-Atchison Electric Cooperative Association, Inc. in Horton, Kansas, local farmers hired by a Kansas City, Missouri, contractor worked on the truck in a scene of high drama and momentum that became the most widely published photograph in rural electrification history. The wages earned by these farmer-linemen went to wire their farm homes. From left to right, the crew members were Lind Jacobson, Junior Adams, Elmer Krebs, and Karl Jacobson, who became known in rural electrification history as the “Four Horsemen of the Lines.”
