The International Forest of Friendship in Atchison, Kansas, is a public arboretum and memorial forest beside Lake Warnock dedicated to the men and women of aviation and space exploration. Established in 1976 by the city of Atchison and the Ninety-Nines, with Fay Gillis Wells as founder and original co-chairman, it combines living trees with remembrance. Trees represent all 50 American states and 35 countries where honorees reside, and many have ties to figures such as George Washington, Amelia Earhart, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Apollo 14. Granite plaques along its trail honor more than 1,200 aviation notables.
