Originally known as the Science Annex, the building later named Carter Hall was erected in 1935-36 in connection with the construction of Jesse Dunn Hall. It housed all science departments and a natural history museum until 1963, when a new science building was erected. In subsequent years, the facility served various uses until an extensive renovation in 1982 provided accommodations for the university nursing program. It was named in 1953 to honor Dr. T.C. Carter, who served on the science faculty from 1908 to 1952.
