Martz Observatory, now known as the Martz-Kohl Observatory, is a public not-for-profit observatory on six rural acres outside Frewsburg, New York, dedicated to amateur astronomy, public education, and enjoyment of the night sky. Founded by amateur astronomer Marshal Martz of nearby Jamestown and later named in his honor, it developed as a hands-on center for serious observing. Martz built its first large telescope, a thirty-inch reflector. The observatory now uses a twenty-four-inch Dall-Kirkham Cassegrain reflector as its main instrument, along with smaller telescopes for members. It also holds weekly public observing nights and serves as a satellite teaching site, especially for Jamestown Community College.
