George S. Bowers of Company F, 8th Regiment, N. J. Volunteer Infantry served his country with devotion and is honored along with other loyal soldiers and sailors who suffered untold misery, starvation, and death while confined as prisoners of war in Andersonville and other Confederate military prison pens of the South during the war of the rebellion from 1861 to 1865, enduring what they suffered there rather than desert their flag.
