A Society of the Evangelical Church formed in 1867 under Pastor J.C. Pfeifer, and the congregation met in homes until 1872, when its first building was erected for $1,900.00. That original building remains as the north half of the present building. In 1907 a new unit was added, a new parsonage was built, and both buildings were dedicated in July 1907. Original records were kept in German until the turn of the century. In 1946, the Evangelical Church and the Church of the United Brethren in Christ united to become Evangelical United Brethren.
