In northeastern Utah, this National Scenic Byway runs about eighty miles from Vernal through Ashley National Forest and the Uinta Mountains to the Flaming Gorge area near the Wyoming line. Its significance lies in the changing landscapes it connects, moving from basin country into high forest and then to reservoir and canyon scenery around Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Created in 1988 as Utah's first Forest Service Byway and added to the National Scenic Byways system on June 9, 1998, it links parks, mountain switchbacks, overlooks, the dam, a suspension bridge, and routes that continue toward both the Wyoming border and Manila.
