Steinaker State Park is a Utah state park built around a reservoir about 7 miles north of Vernal in northeastern Utah, in a high-desert setting south of the Uinta Mountains. Opened in 1964 and named for regional pioneer John Steinaker, the park centers on Steinaker Dam, an earthfill structure built from 1959 to 1962 as part of the CUP-Vernal Unit project to impound Ashley Creek. The reservoir and its facilities, including a sand beach, boat ramp, campsites, and group-use areas, make it a popular place for swimming, fishing, boating, and waterskiing. The surrounding landscape supports varied wildlife from deer and coyotes to raptors and osprey.
