Constructed in 1900 near the center of the farm complex, this building stood close to the corncribs, the wheat house with its granary, and the blacksmith's shop, and the shop hands probably also operated the mill machinery. Inside, shelled corn, or grist, and threshed grain were lifted by conveyor belt from a bin into the hopper above the vertical grindstones, then fed by a funnel through an eye into the center of the stones, whose rotation ground the grist into meal and the grain into flour. An International Harvester Model P 30 engine in a shed on the west side powered the millstones and also powered a hammer mill, used to crush corn for animal feed, and a planing mill near the engine that prepared lumber from the sawmill for use in the carpenter's shop and elsewhere on the farm.
