Built in 1899 with materials hauled at great peril across the Canadian when there was no bridge, the Isaac McCormick Cottage was raised while Isaac McCormick, his wife Capitola, and their eight children lived in a covered wagon and a tent. The home became the cradle of county government when it was the site of the first meeting to plan the separate organization of Hutchinson County, which had previously been joined to Roberts County for judicial purposes. In 1901 it was one of the polling places in the first county election. It was moved to town in 1928 and donated by Edgar Britain in 1964 for a museum.
