Father Baker, superintendent of these charities from 1882 to 1936, dedicated his life's work to Our Lady of Victory. He developed the institutions, founding the Infant Home, the Hospital, and several schools, and crowned his life by building the Basilica in 1928 from donations received from every state in the Union.
