Built in 1906 by landowner and farmer Oliver Francis Short, this stately home of one and a half stories and fifteen rooms housed the Short family and their two children. The Short farm played an important role in the agricultural community by supporting local miners. The house was crafted entirely of cobblestones taken from the nearby Boise River. Its symmetrical main body reflects the Four Square, or Classic Box, form popular at the beginning of the 20th century, while the offset front door reduces the boxlike appearance and is balanced by a sun porch on the east. A balcony above the front porch carries over Queen Anne style. Called by the Idaho Daily Statesman one of the most beautiful homes in the state, the house was unparalleled in size and sophistication when it was completed and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
