The Seventh Ohio Regiment fought at the Battle of Cedar Mountain, Virginia, on August 9, 1862, suffering 190 casualties out of 307 present, with 37 killed and 153 wounded, and many of its officers and soldiers who fought there are buried in unknown graves in this cemetery. Its field and staff included Colonel William R. Creighton, Major O.J. Crane, and Adjutant J. B. Molyneaux, and it served in the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 2nd Corps.
