In San Jose, California, this museum preserves the history of Vietnamese Americans and their journey from Vietnam to the United States. Also known as the Museum of the Boat People & the Republic of Vietnam, it opened in the relocated Greenwalt House at History Park in 2007 after planning that began in 1976 and lasted more than 30 years. Created by the nonprofit Immigrant Resettlement & Cultural Center, Inc., under the leadership of former Army of the Republic of Vietnam colonel Vũ Văn Lộc, it traces the Republic of Vietnam and the war, the boat people era, and Vietnamese American life. It is identified as the world's only museum dedicated to artifacts of the Vietnamese diaspora.
