On October 26, 1912, the S.S. Keystorm, a 256 foot freighter from England, struck Scow Island Shoal. On July 19, 1932, America, a steel barge-drill boat owned by R.C. Huffman Construction Company and carrying a load of dynamite, exploded, killing 7 and injuring 10.
