Luther Burbank Home and Gardens in Santa Rosa, California, preserves the longtime home and working landscape of horticulturist Luther Burbank, who lived in the city for more than 50 years and did most of his life’s work there. The property includes his former house, an 1889 greenhouse he designed and built, gardens containing many of his horticultural introductions, and his grave beneath a Cedar of Lebanon. Burbank became nationally known for introducing more than 250 new fruit varieties, especially plums widely used in agriculture. Recognized as both a National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark No. 234, the site links a public garden with Burbank’s enduring legacy in American plant breeding.
