In December 1906, the Mrs. Stonewall Jackson Chapter, No. 550, U. D. C., of Purcell, Indian Territory, erected Confederate Memorial to honor the memory of those who fought and those who fell in the Confederate Army from 1861 to 1865, declaring that their memories and names would remain without stain and that the glory they won would not wane, while their heroes in gray would live again in legend and song.
